School Tax Related Information

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

The School Tax Collection for 2024-2025 at HPCSD begins on September 16, 2024.

School taxes on real property are due by October 15, 2024.

Unpaid school taxes from October 16, 2024 through to November 1, 2024, will incur a two percent (2%) penalty. Neither the Tax Collector/Receiver, nor the School District, has the authority to remove this penalty. The Hyde Park Central School District will not accept school tax payments made after November 1, 2024. At the conclusion of the tax collection, unpaid school taxes will be turned over to the Dutchess County Commissioner of Finance.

Please contact the Dutchess County Finance Department at 845-486-2026 to pay any prior year's taxes.  After November 1, 2024, you can also pay unpaid 2024-2025 school taxes to the D.C. Finance Department typically until the last weekday of November (subject to change).  Any remaining unpaid taxes for the 2024-2025 school year will be relevied onto the Town/County tax bill that will be mailed out in early 2025.

FYI: Only taxes paid during the school tax collection period are recorded on the online tax portals

Tax Notes

School District Tax Rates:

The Board of Education typically sets the tax rates for each school year in August.  The tax rates are based upon the total tax levy for the year in the approved budget and final municipal assessments for each of the five towns in the district (Clinton, Hyde Park, Pleasant Valley, Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck).

Tax rates can vary between the towns because property in each town could be assessed at different levels in relation to full market value.  After each town submits their final assessment information to the State Office of Real Property Services each summer, NYS assigns each town an equalization rate to account for any differences in assessment practices.  The equalization process is designed to fairly apportion the total tax levy between the towns and result in similar tax bills for properties with similar values regardless of municipality.  The School District does not control any part of the assessment or equalization process.  Equalization Rates Explanation
