The Franklin D. Roosevelt volleyball team opened the Section 9 season with a 25-9, 25-23, 25-10 win over New Paltz Tuesday in Hyde Park.

Sophomore Shannon Kelly led the Presidents' attack with six kills, five aces and one block. Junior Kristen Cole added five kills and two aces. Senior Rebecca Hieter contributed two aces, 13 assists and two kills.

"My team came out strong in serving," Roosevelt coach Cheryl Wilson said. "New Paltz had trouble in the first and third game with serve receiving.

"In the second game, we made it too close and we were keeping the ball close on our hits. We're working on having a strong offense and not backing down, but playing it safe."

Nyah Bonilla, a first team Poughkeepsie Journal all-star last fall, led New Paltz with five kills and three blocks. Darcy Dodson had three digs and three assists for the Huguenots.

Last season, Roosevelt lost in the Section 9 Class AA semifinals to Warwick, and New Paltz lost in the Section 9 Class B championship game to Red Hook.

Roosevelt plays again on Thursday when it visits Marlboro in Section 9 action with the varsity beginning at approximately 5:45 p.m. New Paltz will host Wallkill on Thursday with play beginning at about 5:45 p.m.

The Varsity Volleyball Team opened the season with a win over New Paltz.  Top hitters were Shannon Kelly and Kristen Cole with Rebecca Hieter assisting with 13 points.

 

FDR Announcements - September 13,2011

The Varsity Volleyball beat John Jay 3 – 0.  Rebecca Hieter and Heidi Fritz teamed up to set and record 32 assists.  Top hitter for the match was Shannon Kelly with Kristen Cole, Heidi Grieger and Rebecca Hieter close behind.  The team hosts Highland today at 6:00 p.m.

Roosevelt volleyball sweeps to home win

The Franklin D. Roosevelt High School volleyball team dropped visiting John Jay on Monday, 25-21, 25-15, 26-24, behind 13 kills and 10 digs from Shannon Kelly.

Rebecca Hieter handed out 23 assists and totaled six kills in the winning effort. Kristen Cole added eight kills and eight digs, while Heidi Grieger chipped in six kills.

For the Patriots, Megan Theiller tallied eight kills, seven digs and nine service points, Rachel Sabatini had seven kills and six digs, Chelsea Barberan recorded 13 kills and Shanna Schaeffer had eight assists.

"It was good play by both teams. it was fought right to the bitter end, neither team gave up," said Roosevelt coach Cheryl Wilson. "Both teams were hitting hard, picking up digs. It was a good match, for us at least, to start off, and forced to play strong before we get into our division play."

FDR Announcements - September 14

The Varsity Volleyball team beat Highland 3 – 0.  Top hitters for the match were Lisa Ketcham and Zenobia Smith with 5 kills each.  Sabrina Volino was top server with 6 aces.  Setter, Heidi Fritz, added 2 aces and 2 kills and 10 assists.

Franklin D. Roosevelt 3, Rondout Valley 0 — Shannon Kelly had one ace, 12 kills and three digs as the visiting Presidents swept the Ganders 25-7, 25-14, 25-11.

Venika Jarvis contributed six aces, six kills and two digs for Roosevelt (4-0). Rebecca Hieter added four aces, 24 assists and three kills. Kristen Cole chipped in with three kills.

The Varsity Volleyball beat Rondout Valley 3-0 Rebecca Hieter controlled the plays with 24 assists and 4 ace serves and 3 kills.  Shannon Kelly added 12 kills.  Venika Jarvis served 6 aces and added 6 kills to the score.  Kristen Cole tacked on 3 kills for the win.

 

FDR Announcements - Sept 21, 2011

The Varsity Volleyball Team fell behind 0 games to 2 before rallying to win the next 2 games against Wallkill.  The 5th game finished with Wallkill winning 25-22.  Top scorers for the match was Venika Jarvis and Kristen Cole each with 2 aces and 4 kills.  Shannon Kelly added 6 more kills.  All 3 players teamed up for 6 block points.  FDR hosts Saugerties on

Thursday at home.

The Franklin D. Roosevelt High School volleyball team beat Saugerties 25-14, 25-17, 25-11 Thursday in Hyde Park.

The Presidents improved to 5-1 overall, 4-1 in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League and 1-1 in their division.

"They came out with a whole lot of intensity," Roosevelt coach Cheryl Wilson said, "and they took control of the game, both 1 and 2."

In the third game, though, the scored was knotted at 10-10 before Roosevelt went on a 15-1 run to seal the sweep.

Shannon Kelly's seven kills, three service aces, two assists and block paced the victors, who also used strong efforts from Heidi Fritz (10 assists, ace, block) and Kristen Cole (six kills) in the victory.

Roosevelt travels to the Town of Poughkeepsie today to play host Spackenkill.

FDR Announcements - Sept 23, 2011

The Varsity Volleyball beat Saugerties setting their record at 5 – 1.  Top scorers were Shannon Kelly and Kristen Cole.  Heidi Fritz earned 10 assists in the last game with Sylvia Vo serving 10 straight points to finish the match.

 

FDR Announcements - Sept 26, 2011

The Varsity Volleyball team beat Spackenkill 3 – 1 on Friday.  Personal highs were set by Shannon Kelly with 17 kills and Venika Jarvis with 11 kills.  Rebecca Hieter assisted on 35 team kills setting her own personal best.  The team will match up against undefeated Red Hook on Tuesday at Red Hook.

The Franklin D. Roosevelt High School volleyball team beat host Roy C. Ketcham 25-20, 25-21, 25-17 in a non-league match on Tuesday in Wappingers Falls.

Section 9's Roosevelt is 8-1 overall. Ketcham of Section 1 is 5-6.

Shannon Kelly had seven kills, eight digs and one block for Roosevelt. Kristen Cole added two aces, six kills and seven digs. Rebecca Hieter contributed 20 assists, two aces, four kills and eight digs.

Breanna LeChase led Ketcham with 10 digs. Marissa Notarbartolo added four kills, two aces and one block. Alyssa Ricciardi had two aces, four kills and two blocks.

"We're kind of hitting a tough string of matches," Ketcham coach Dan Pampalone said of his schedule, which includes defending Section 1 Class AA champion Arlington and John Jay. "It's a bit of a slippery slope. We've got to get over the hump heading into sectionals."

Ketcham returns to league play in Section 1 Conference I League A when it hosts Arlington today at 4:15 p.m. Roosevelt hosts Ellenville in Mid-Hudson Athletic League play on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

The Varsity Volleyball won 3 straight games over Pine Plains.  Top hitters were Kristen Cole and Shannon Kelly with 8 kills each.  Rebecca Hieter added 4 ace serves and recorded 20 assists for the win.

The Varsity Volleyball Team lost their match to Carmel 1-3.  Top hitters were Shannon Kelly with 12 kills and Kristen Cole with 11 kills.  Rebecca Hieter added 6 kills, 1 ace and 20 assists.  The team hosts Wallkill today at 6:00 p.m. to avenge their sole MHAL loss.

 

FDR Announcements - Oct 17

The Varsity Volleyball team beat Wallkill 3-1 with the strong hitting of Shannon Kelly, Heidi Grieger and Kristen Cole who combined for 24 kills.  Rebecca Hieter recorded 21 assists.

 

Poughkeepsie Journal - Oct 21

Danielle Girard had 11 kills and 11 digs as the Red Hook High School volleyball team defeated host Franklin D. Roosevelt 25-17, 25-20, 25-12 to clinch the Mid-Hudson Athletic League Division I title in Hyde Park on Thursday.

Nicole Novak added 13 assists, one dig and two blocks for Red Hook, which finished division play with a 5-1 record. Abbey Velie contributed 10 kills and five digs. Sarah MacHugh had five aces, 21 digs and two assists.

"Good play by Red Hook all around," Roosevelt coach Cheryl Wilson said. "They had strong hitting. Roosevelt played flat. It was our Senior Night and we were just not up the way we usually are."

Kristen Cole had six kills and 13 digs for Roosevelt (12-3 overall, 10-2 league, 4-2 division).

Shannon Kelly chipped in with 12 digs, four kills and one ace. Venika Jarvis registered three kills.

FDR Announcements - Nov 2

The Varsity Volleyball team defeated Monroe Woodbury in the 1st round of sectional play.  FDR plays #1 see Pine Bush on Thursday.  Top scorers were Kristen Cole – 19 kills, Shannon Kelly – 14 kills and Venika Jones with 6 kills.  Rebecca Hieter recorded 35 assists.

 

 

Poughkeepsie Journal - Nov 2

Kristen Cole collected 19 kills and 30 digs, leading the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School girls volleyball team to a 25-21, 19-25, 25-7, 21-25, 25-23 Section 9 Class AA quarterfinal victory over Monroe Woodbury in Hyde Park on Tuesday.

Shannon Kelly contributed two aces, two assists, 14 kills, one block and 15 digs for the fourth-seeded Presidents (14-3 overall), who will meet top seed Pine Bush in a sectional semifinal on Thursday.

Rebecca Hieter had five aces, 35 assists, three kills and six digs for Roosevelt, which also received two aces, six kills and two blocks from Venika Jarvis.
