Coaches Notes: You guys are starting to get it right. I was so impressed with your effort from the minute we walked on the field until the minute we walked off. Pre-game was excellent. When you prepare well you will play well and you guys were fantastic today. The best part of today was how well you executed. The defense played great. You guys are starting to play better as a group and are starting to trust that our defensive strategy works. Peter.......you're an animal. Keep up the good intense play, the others feed off of it. Offensively we were also great today. Much better job passing, combining and creating scoring opportunities. If we continue to play together we will continue to score with ease and will continue to win games. I'm proud of your effort, you guys are starting to gel and starting to believe that you can be one of the best teams in the MHAL and Section IX. Let's keep it going!

Boys soccer: Noonan's late goals boost Roosevelt
Mike Benischek • September 21, 2010
Tied at one goal apiece after more than 70 minutes of play, Pat Noonan scored what proved to be the game winner in Franklin D. Roosevelt's 4-1 triumph at Middletown in boys soccer on Monday. After Noonan scored his first goal of the afternoon off a Tom Steigerwald pass at 33:52 of the second half, he scored again 21 seconds later off an Ian Pavlak pass.
"Pat has been doing a nice job of just combining with other players," said Roosevelt coach Dan Cowan. "(His first goal) was a nice combination with him and Tom. Pat's been shooting the ball really well this year."
Yury Wajda capped the game's scoring with 1:30 left in regulation, with an assist from Noonan.
Roosevelt had snagged a 1-0 lead at 31:32 of the first half when Pavlak beat Middletown goalie Jorje Nieto with an assist from Matt Koziol. Middletown's Djamil Jassir tied it in the 25th minute of the second half.
"We pretty much outplayed them in the first half," Cowan said. "We just had some more scoring opportunities in the second half.
"When they scored their goal, I was still pretty confident we would be able to win the game."
Part of that confidence was derived from the Roosevelt defensive effort, which allowed just two shots on goal.
"We made some adjustments after the Marlboro game this past Friday," Cowan said. "I'm much happier and much more confident in my defense's ability to defend."
Mike Bojko manned the goal for Roosevelt, which improved to 3-0 this season and will host Onteora on Wednesday.
