Coaches Notes:

Washingtonville is a tough Section IX team and we dominated them.  You guys did an excellent job passing the ball, making overlapping runs, and not allowing Washingtonville to get a quality shot on goal.  You out-hustled them, were more physical, and never let up.  It was because of your constant pressure on the ball and will to win that they were unable to ever get into a flow. Today we proved that we are one of the top 3 teams in Section IX.  You came through with your game dedication and surely made Coach Joel Tomson proud.  With each win we get closer and closer to our team goal.  With each win the season becomes more and more exciting.  Stay focused, stay positive, continue to pick each other up, and lets continue forward on the road back to the dome.

HYDE PARK - Kevin Cerdis scored the winning goal, and Yury Wajda added a pair of insurance goals to lead Franklin D. Roosevelt to the championship of the fourth annual Joel Tomson Memorial Tournament with a 3-0 win over Washingtonville.

The Presidents have won all four of the Tomson tournaments.

"It felt great. We dedicated the game to Coach Tomson," said Roosevelt coach Dan Cowan. "It felt good to keep the trophy at our school and give an effort Coach Tomson would be proud of."

Matt Darling made eight saves for Roosevelt to complete the shutout.

In the consolation game, Carmel defeated Kingston 3-0.

That action came a day after Roosevelt had earned its berth in the final with a 1-0 triumph over Kingston in the opening round, and Washingtonville had defeated Carmel 2-1 to open the tournament.

Coaches Notes:

This was another one of those games where a team was just trying to keep the game to one goal with hopes of trying to catch us with a long ball.  We had many scoring opportunities but were a bit unlucky.  That happens.  The main thing is that we were able to defend well, Darling played excellent in goal, and Cody preserved our one goal lead by saving the tying goal with a nice defensive header.  Sometimes it's not pretty, but I'll take a win any day of the week.  Great fight!
